J'ai acheté de vieilles cassettes au Liban: votre voix, celle d'Oumayma, parfois quelques percussions, toujours votre 'oud. J'apprécie les voix, les mélodies. J'ai commencé à apprendre l'arabe; il est encore trop tôt pour que je comprenne tout à l'écoute, mais je me fais aider : un ami libanais me dicte les paroles et me les explique. Depuis que je connais vos chansons, un petit virus me démange: j'ai envie d'apprendre le 'oud. A Paris, j'ai rencontré plusieurs professeurs (dont l'un fut votre élève), mais je ne sais pas comment choisir. J'ai ouï dire que vous aviez vécu en région parisienne : auriez-vous un professeur à me recommander? J'enrage d'avoir manqué votre concert à 'Aley en 1998 alors que j'étais au Liban. comments: Marcel Khalifeh and his music keep us hoping and believing that we (Arabs) still have something to give to this world. Marcel wasn't successful only because of the "them" of the songs and music he composed, and I mean the Arab (Palestinian) Problem. He's successful because he's very good, he's real and truelly believes in what he's doing. This amaizing harmony between the political oppinion, believes and music is what makes us all believe in Marcel. Simply he represents our hope and believe in this Arab World, in ourselves as a nation.
Jadal, an other amazing step in Marcel's music after Ahmad El-Arabi. This amazing concerto that is purely built on Oud has given the instrument an new dimension and the Arab music a new horizon and understanding. In my cold and dark nights I listen to "Wood mina Al-Assifa". I get my belief back, and feel warm and more decissive to achive, I refuse the death and sing to the new wine that the storm will bring.
Is Marcel a reflection of us (who believe in him)?! Or, is he leading us through his songs and music?!. Will we be able to come up to what Marcel would expect from us? What we expect from ourselves? This is the question.
Marcel has been doing a lot!! What have "WE" been doing so far?! Of course I'm not questioning the heros in Palestine. But I question every one else.
Thank you Marcel! Because you keep the belief in this nation! Thank you Marcel, because you make us think and ask ourselves what to do!!

Although I have seen just two interviews with you, I really admire your simple nature and you indifference to the show life in the world today. I feel that I identify with you in everything. I identify with the hope and belief in life and human being that you maintain in spite of frustration in all levels of our painful reality in our regions , whether occupied by Israel or by our regimes. I've lived in Damascus and in Haifa. Many young women Jewish and from different parts were introduced to your music and songs, and they stood in love with them.
