comments: While I was a university student, I set my tape-recorder alarm to play Marcil's song "Saba7 al khire ya watani" every morning. In 1981, Macil's songs were prohibited in Yemen. I bought many tapes from Dammascus-Syria. I gave them to a song's shope in Sana'a to reproduce them to the public secretly. Three great men in the arab nation, Gamal Abdul Nasser, Marcil Khaleefa, and Abdul Haleem Hafez during Nasser's era.
Macril, those against you are monkeys and rats; you are the source of inspiration and hope.
I encourage the youth to know you and your songs.

I saw, enjoyed and felt them at the concert of November 4. They were five.
Marcel, Yola, Oumeima, Rami and Bashar you were wonderful.
I never left my children home, but that night I went to attend your concert. It was something more than music and songs . You took me someplace very high and I looked down; I saw children suffering, mothers crying, and tears in old men eyes. I saw happiness, joy, black dresses in wedding party. I saw children playing, fighting and singing. I saw young girls running beside the rivers and their hats flying with the wind.
I saw young men fighting for their freedoms. I saw blood on birthday cake and on the reading books. It was very mixed and crowded picture, but clean and neat to show us how much we need people like you in our life and to tell us from where we are coming , to tell us life is not only eating, working and talking, and to tell us how much our people need our help.
Thank you for this picture. And finally thank you for giving me something I never had in my life; it is the feeling of my mother.

As much as one could say, one will always underestimate marcel. I was one of the lucky ones to attend marcel's concert yesterday Nov 3 in Montreal. I had some visions about marcel, but he disappointed them all. i thought marcel was an artist who loves music, but in the end marcel is not. he is music by himself, and indeed a revoultionary one. Seeing him playing these notes enjoying every second of it made me surprised. It is as if he is tasting them and letting them melt slowly in his heart, and in ours. he was dancing while he played his new music (muda3aba). he was happy to make us share with him this beauty. the climax of his party was the last song "ommi". I dont know about anyone in the hall, but i know what i did. i sat down and wept and wept ... he touched me deep and always will with his divine voice and sacred oud. Crying while listening to him is the most beautiful thing that could happen in a life time. I dont want to say thanks to marcel, because this means we are done with him. we are not done with him , and he is not done with us.
