I consider myself able now to compare these great two (Marcel Khalife and Yanni from Greece if you turn out to know him), while Yanni has second to none instrumental pieces which can take from unfathomable ocean depths to unexplored skies, Marcel's music is still on earth taking you by hand as a little child and guiding you through fields, virgin woods and Arab old souks. I love both.

Comments: Si le génie de Marcel Khalifé a enfanté de purs chefs-d'oeuvre de la musique, marqués par la virtuosité de l'interprétation et la richesse mélodique des compositions, il m'a insufflé le goût de la pûreté et l'exigence dans la quête de la perfection. Passionné de longue date par la musique de Marcel Khalifé, je m'attends toujours à retrouver cette pûreté dans les nouvelles éditions des anciens albums. Et c'est là que ma déception est grande. En effet, j'aurais aimé redécouvrir des merveilles comme l'album "Promises of the storm" dans sa version originale avec Rita, Oummi, Jawaz Assafar, ... joués simplement avec le Oud, c'aurait été sublime! Je viens d'acheter les 3 derniers CD et je regrette vivement la disparition de certains couplets comme dans "The Border (Al houdoud)" ou de certains phrases instrumentales dans d'autres morceaux. Mon voeu le plus cher serait la réédition de tous les albums originaux "Farah", "Ghourabaa(Strangers)", "Aarass(Weddings)", "Ououd min al Assefa" (Promises of the storm)",... dans leur version originale et intégrale, sans réorchestration ni raccourcissement.

Par ailleurs, hier Marcel Khalifé devait se produire à Paris lors du Concert pour la Paix. Nous étions des milliers à l'attendre. Moi, je rêvais de ce moment depuis 20 ans. Hélas! Notre attente fut vaine, Marcel n'est pas venu! Ma frustration est indescriptible, et j'espère que ce rendez-vous manqué avec Marcel sera oublié, et qu'une date sera bientôt fixée pour un concert à Paris. Comments: Quel composition magnifique, Marcel, tu as cree pour nous, de l'autre cote de la planete d'ou tu viens, nous qui avons eu la chance d'etre presents a ce concert historique du 11 Septembre 2003 a San Francisco. Et de voir ensemble tous ces musiciens de diverses cultures rassemble pour jouer cette divine creation qui vient de ton coeur! Et Oumeima, qui de justesse, nous est arrivee, elle aussi de si loin. Sa voix de miel, sa voix d'or, la sienne et la tienne, deposet la paix dans le coeur de ceux qui vous ecoutent.
Je n'ai jamais ete aussi enchantee de ma vie, et pourtant, j'en ai vu des choses tout au long de mes parcours a travers le monde... Tu as droit a ton succes a cause de la purite qui flotte a travers chaque note, chaque mot que tu chantes et chaque movement de tes doigts si fins sur ton oud. Que l'univers continue de te proteger pour une eternite entiere.

From your well known and beloved songs of Mahmoud Darwish's poetry (always sung with a freshness as if you and Oumeima are singing them for the very first time) to the new orchestral piece you composed for the SF Chamber Orchestra and the guest performers from different countries, the music of this evening truly reflected a cooperative and many cultured spirit, a reflection of the REAL world that we live in every day. Comments: Very dear Marcel or staff, I cannot wait until you go to San Fransisco. I will be flying to meet you there with my mother and hear your beautiful voice with Oumayma's. I have a few questions I am hoping someone can answer for me. First, what exactly does the event at San Fransisco State University consist of? Do we need tickets for this Sept. 10th event?
I have grown up with Marcel's beautiful music and my mother loves him to death too! Will there be any opportunity for us to meet him personnally in San Fransisco? That would be one of my dreams!
