comment: After enjoying Marcel for many years, it was a pleasure to hear the live performances of Jadal in the middle nineties. At this time I asked marcel's compatriot Charbel about his 'ud method book. for two years straight I gave him my berkeley adress. He said that the third volume would soon be completed. Sure enough, one day I looked in my mailbox & there was a package- from lebanon! I can only say this was very gratifying! Although the music cannot be completely written, his work is very useful and educational. I am pleased to see the release of "promises of the storm" with "rita" & "oummi"...recently I performed on a small soundtrack about jews and palestinians in which a little girl was singing 'OUMMI,OUMMI,OUMMI,OUMMI" in a descending maqam. it's probably Marcel's song, for I have not yet heard the original. In closing, I shall soon feature the CD in our bookstore in San Rafael. I usually order from Valley Media in Ca.
