comment: Hello Marcel,
I'm sending this message after I've read that you have been
accessed for being insulting "Islam" by reciting bit of our
holy "Quran" verse in a song. Although I haven't listened
to your song, unfortunately, but I'm hundred percent sure
that a great nationalist like you won't do that at all. It
is the first time for me to know that you are a Mronit
Christian, that should tell my ignorance of your
background, but your name stuck in mind since the eighties
when your songs and music expressed your support to the
Palestinians and the lefties front during the Lebanon's
civil war which we all know who was behind and support
whom. I'm a Muslim and proud of being so, and I'll defend
my country/ religion by all means, and because of that I
should listen the logic. We the people who live in the 3rd
World all(Muslims, Christians,..)( Arabs, Kurd's, Afghans,
......) have one common suffering of being oppressed in
all sort of ways by the racists represented by the west
capitalism who is strongly driven by their moral-less
industry. Please accept my support to you, though it is
only a message, I wish I could do much more. And I'm sure
most of the real Muslims will support you as well. Please
consider the other Muslims figures which I've read their
support to you as well. I'm sure you will never think it is
the Islam's theme what pushed those people and made them
arise the case to the court. May be they trying to stop any
attempt in the future to recite part of the Quran in a
song. I'm not trying to defend them, but trying hardly to
say that we all need each other to put hand in hand,
our thoughts together on how to get over our problems and
stop the suffering of our people.
The whole 3rd world people need strong real nationalist heroes like you "Marcel"
and what you facing now is part of your struggle.
Forgive my poor writing, it is only an attempt to express my strong support to you.

comment: It is uterly unacceptable that a person like Marcel is accused of a crime against islam, in his attempt at defending the dowtroden of the arab world, and propagate their misery and sad plight, while the accuseres, infact are the cause of what happend tp us as lebanese and as arabs. It is heigh time that these hipocrits shut up and relegate themselves to where they belong, namley in the trash heap of history, and lrt the true patriots of the land procceed in healing its wounds. It is time that we wacke up to the true cause of our pain and our status, and distinguish between our killers and our saviors. Marcel lived with us in the trenches starved with us suffered from thirst with us, and bore the insult and humiliation from our despots, with us, while the like of his accusers ate until they got digestion, and drank until they could not breath. They never felt our pain and our thirst. Thus we say to those so called defenders of Islam, that islam is shaking hie hands from them, islam is for the masses and with them and is shacking his hands from them. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY FORM OR SHAPE. THANK YOU MARCEL, AND THANKS TO ALL OF YOUR LIKE.

We stand behind you today, all as one, through this criminal attempt to persecute you in the name of law, in the place you love most: Lebanon. This is not the Lebanon that you know and love, and not the Lebanon weknow from your songs.

comment: I do not understand how the using the inspirational words of the Quran to relate to current human tribulations can be seen as irreverant to Islam. The same faulty logic seems to be at work here in Kuwait in the arrest of a political science professor, Dr. Ahmed Baghdadi. Dr. Baghdadi used the prophet Muhammed's early experiences in Mecca as a way to encourgage Kuwait University students to be persistent in their efforts until they succeed, and has now been imprisoned on the charge of blasphemy. I would think making the lessons of the Quran relevant to everyday life would be encouraged by religious men and women, but this does not seem to be the case.

comment: I am in full support of the artistic works of Marcel Khalife. It is rediculous to think that any artistic or popular statement referencing Islam or the Qurêan could possibly be debasing, so strong is their authority and sound their foundation. To suggest that artistic works challenge people's beliefs in anything but a healthy way is somewhat nearsighted and paranoid. To supress an artist like this makes their work all the more visible and important so the accusers are prompting the wrong reaction from the public by condemning Mr. Khalife's work.

comment: John Donne said and Ernest Hemingway repeated : "any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee". Marcel is the conscience of the Arab World; the voice of those whose voices are unheard... During the Lebanese civil war, he transcended the ugly sectarianism (attaa'ifiyyi or imaraat attawaa'if) that plagues Lebanon, envisioning a brighter future where humans (of any 'kind') can live in dignity and freedom. The people who believe in changing Lebanon to a civil society, where "religion is for God and the country is for all its people" (addeen lillah wal watan liljamee3) are many, and their time will surely come. Lebanon cannot suvive the challenges of the modern times until it conquers the 'evil' within. Let us make our voices heard and each of us should do whatever they can to stand with Marcel and support him; the bell tolls for all of us!

comment: When logic dies, fools believe they will stand up and become popular.Only real honest people can pass judgement on Mr. Marcell Khalife's honesty ,intention, honour, and his tolerence to other people belief. All these vertues and values are reflected by his words and his songs ,which echo through the walls of the churches and the mosques and the hearts of those who suffer in Palestine ,in Africa , and in many so called moslem countries .It takes people of integrity to even understand what Marcell Khalife stands for .Why then should we care what the fools think? The world love you Marcell . No one will ever dare or succeed to smear you or your reputation.Even the angels in heaven enjoying your voice.I do not worry about you. keep singing,Your words ultimately will drown the biggots and the fools who dared to point a finger at you. In the name of the oppressed in Palestine and every where ,I salute you .

comment: It is severely shameful to persecute Khalife who continues to carry out his calling in life the composition and performing of music, seriously, passionately, and committedly, and with a standard that speaks of his deepest respect for his culture and its peoples, especially when his persecution is carried out by his very own country that he vehemently advocates for.

comment: The only way an artist can be creative is to be allowed to express his/her opinion freely and unstrung; just like a bird is free to fly. However, we see a resurgence of oppressive regime in the midst of reconstruction and recivilization of Lebanon. What has become of us? I may or may not agree with his view points. But I have to give him credit for his art. Marcel has sang freely for the poor of Lebanon, for san3a', for Palestine, for 3ali, for jounoub etc... And when he continued to be free to fly we plan to shoot him down? shame on us!

Why not cancelling all religious songs. I am sure that the names of Allah and Mohammed are present in many religious songs and these are words from the Quran!!! It is too sad.

comment: Such accusations are a constant reminder of the diminshed freedom available to intellectuals and various peoples of convictions in our countries. Examples prevail from Egypt to Algeria to Lebanon. The accusations and their declared 'justifications' might seem very random and episodic at first, but upon further examination, their political nature and calculated outcomes become easily detectable. It seems too surreal that in this day and age and at a time when Lebanon is in such economic and political turmoil that we would have to rally and organize for the right of an amazing individual to sing words that speak directly to our souls and everysingle person walking the streets of a town in Lebanon understands so completely. I wonder why aren't princes and presidents in our precious Arab Kingdoms being accused and persecuted for flagrant disregard of the words of the Qura'n when their people sleep hungry and tired as they partake proudly in the normalization process.

comment: Marcel Khalife is one of the very few artist in the Arab world that speaks in the name of the oppressed and the weak. And of course this kind of message is not tolerated anywhere, to be tolerated in Lebanon where the only voice allowed is the voice of the rich and the powerful. Marcel Khalife is a very honest commited activist who has done nothing wrong. I heard the song and there is nothing offensive about it. Many other singers in the past like Sabah Fakhry sang from the Khoran al Sharif. Stop this hypocrisy now and stop using religion for political purposes. Ayham Dahi
