comment: To whom it my concern,
From what I have read, it seems to many, that the words used in the song "Oh My Father, I am Yusif," did not offend anyone. So why is it necessary for this man, Marcel Khalife, to be in prison for writing a song that offended you. I understand one may feel punishment is necessary for committing a blasphemous action against a common religion, but that is not the case here. Punishment of blasphemy for the accused should not include physical violence, such as confinement.
What Khalife has done is no major crime, because all he did was voice his opinion and his opinion may be true, which is why some people may not like it. What I am trying to say is a man like Khalife should not be locked away for writing a song that touched many people with a truth that hurts.
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and I hope that it helps contribute to change your mind and release Marcel Khalife.

comment: As a moslim, i do not believe that these charges are fair. Mr. Khalife, should be able to express his feeling in what ever form he wishes. For Koran, it not the property of the Islamic authorities in Lebanon, and could be quoted to express a thought, feeling, and emotions.

comment: I think by stating my opinion I would sound a fanatic person but truly I am not and I use religion as a way of communication between me and my creator. However, and as religious people in Lebanon had, are and will always abuse this power enguilfed in their position, I believe it is really the time to seriously make these so called leaders retreat back into their domain of religion, strip them of all authority empowered into their persona and restrict them to religious issues only. We had enough and the example is 15 years of war. Again please excuse my tone but don't u think that enough is enough, especially for a Veteran like Marcel Khalife who carried on the cause of the South, the occupation, and especially Beirut. This is a person who carried the message in the best way he knows. Is this how we reward him???
Thank You

comment: What can I say? I am a muslim but I am ashamed to belong to a country that is judging someone who spent his entire life defending its causes and I am ashamed of those religious men who are supposed to be a source of knowledge but unfortunately they are representing the ignorance that the prophet Mohamed (AS) wanted to liberate and free us from it. I was raised in south lebanon, and the national songs that inspired from the Coran used to push us to defy the occupation, we used to hear these songs since we were kids. I want to ask a question, : A lot of those songs and resistance songs contain verses from the Holly Koran. Why we are targeting Marcel Khalifeh only?? and if a religious man finds (Ana youssef ya abi) is a blasphemy. Some very known and respectfull clergies and religious men in Lebanon found it a song that exposes the cause of injustice and have no problem with it. Finally i want to ask those who are targeting Marcel Khalifeh to serve the arabic causes as much as he did. I started to doubt our justice system who put Kozo Ogomoto in prison and now Marcel khalifeh.. And I will not be surprised if one day they decide to take our martyrs out of their graves and judge them for resisting the Iaraelis. WHO IS BEHIND THOSE????????

comment: I strongly believe there hasn't been justice in the accusations imposed upon the great Marcel Khalifa. A one of a kind musician who shared his gift and deep feelings with us for so many years. Many of us have benefitied from his art, and I do also recall that there has been many people of his callibre who in the past have used Kur'anic verses and words in their songs. So why condemn Marcel on his own. If i was to call this incident any name ... i would most certainly call it a conspiracy.

comment: As a moslem and a Palestinian I have urging questions to ask the judical institutions. Why now filing the accusations? The most frightening question: Why there are never any judicial actions or accusations against the so spread whores and belly dancers etc? Whom are most dangerous and acting against God's rules and social rules and manners. Why those are even approved by the government and religious organizations are closing eyes and ears at them? Beware God first and then judge others!!

I knew about Marcel Khalife a long time ago but I did not get the chance to listen to his music or songs as they were not available in Egypt. later I got like 8 of his tapes through Lebanes friends. The first time I got his tapes, i got 4 of them together and the first song I heard was rakwt Arab, in the same tape including ana youseef ya abi. I told myself oh is there really a man singing what I am hearing, I have kept my amazment till now. Every time I listen to his songs I am just amazed as if this is the first time. oh take care dear Marcel, take good care of yourself and you have people who still understand around you, or let us say people who KNOW. love
