comment: It is very difficult to find a word that describes the rage of the majority of lebanese people about this case. I would like do discuss this issue quietly. I do believe that it is not a problem of religion but a problem of religious man who became a toy in the hands of very known businessman and "politician".This religious man was appointed by this businessman who was one day a prime minister and he gets his salary from the lebanese tax payers. It's very clear that this religious man gets his orders from that businessman. A businessman who gave the orders to massacre the innocents in August 13 when they were peacefully protesting Oslo accord. A businessman who thinks that Lebanon and Lebanese people belongs to him and he doesn't belong to them. A businessman who was ready to take any action against anyone standing anti the israeli and american plan in Lebanon and the midleast. He shut down many Television and radio stations. He controlled the news. He closed m! any news papers. He cancelled any kind of protesting or demonstration. When that businessman was a prime mister he asked this religious man to forget about this case and he did. After electing a new president and having a honest and clean prime minister who is trying to re correct what the former prime minister corrupted. This religious man received the orders from his boss to bring back this issue in order to give a bad Image about the current lebanese government and prime minister. I Don't remember any word or action was taken by this religious man when israel occupied beyrouth (where was he?? I don't know). When I read about religion and what the educated religious people who paid their life for their thoughts wrote about religion (www.shariati.com) i found that religion (and particularly Islam)was found to bring people together, unite them, liberate them from the ignorence, teach them to stand against any kind oppression and injustice. The prophet (AS) was received in Madina! by a song (tali3a el badro 3alayna) and he appreciated that. I want to ask this religious man to free himself from the influence of politicians and businessmen and to spend his time reading more about islam and the Coran. Real Islam will never approve the actions taken against our beloved Marcel Khalifeh. I want to ask this religious man to show us a paper proving that he represents Allah (SW) on the earth but not a paper signed by the former prime ministre.

comment: I have not read the poem or song involved, but I think we have to be very careful when we try to silence people. If we silence someone, and what he or she says is important, he, or she, will become a martyr. On the other hand if what they say is not important it will soon be forgotten anyway.

Keep going Marceil and God and all freedom lovers are with you.

comment: This case harms not only Marcel, but even more so all of us. "The greatest harm done is to those whose whole mental development is crampled and their reason cowed by the fear of heresy. Who can compute what the world loses in the multitude of promising intellects combined with timid characters, who dare not follow out any bold, vigourouse, independent train of thought, lest it should land them in something which would admit of being considered irreligous or immoral?"- J.S. Mill

comment: I do not think that Marcel Khalifa's song is against Islam. Marcel Khalife celebrates our culture and our heritage. I believe that we need to support all the Arab intellectuals that are trying their best to be creative under extremely difficult conditions. Therefore, I sign the petition in support of Marcel Khalife.

comment: I would like to note that it is not the first time that artists are being condemned for their artistic achievements. Examples in our history include numerous prominent names such as Yusef Chahine, Taha Husssein, Nasr Hamed Abou Zeid, and a lot of others. We are a nation that supports free speech in form only, not in action.

comment: again, the real meaning shows its originality, the judge for the facts side showed that there is still a hope among the darkness, the factual life has always its methods to express about itself, and the lost meaning get to the surface in the eyes of the orphan children and in the tones of the "wound song", that congratulation to Marcel Khalifa and still a lot ot sing for.....

comment: I got one comment to make...May god be with marcel khalife...what he did to the arabic music world is something that no person has ever done before..his music was the kind of music needed to remind us of everything going on out there...and i owe him a great gratitude and respect. What the Arab leaders accused him of was just a bunch of BULL....i mean don't they have anything else to do but rip on a man that had his music help all people...i am a muslim and i don't care if marcel wants to use the quran in his lyrics..but what marcel is using them for is a good purpose...not bad...remember that people....peace to all and ramadan mubarak!
