I have read the script of the song very carefully. What I found out, especially in between the lines, is a universal fact occurring everyday, every hour, every minute, every moment....etc. Both Darwish and Khalefe, in my opinion, are fully aware of this fact and its inhumane implications. We should express deep gratitude to both M. Darwish and M. Khalefe for painfully highlighting the spiteful aspects of humanity, in an attempt - of course - to show us how terrible it is to behave as Yousef's brothers..... Religiously speaking, I modestly think both men will be rewarded by God who stresses the cruciality of making use of past lessons.

comment: I am shocked at the stage at which we have reached in lebanon. Artists such Marcel Khalife should be sanctified instead of persecuted.People like Marcel who sing about freedom and liberty for the Arab World should be protected and put on a pedestal. When a country reaches a point, such as that, where all of its artists and people of thought are no longer allowed to speak their mind or express their empathy towards others and pushes away its people to other countries, then this country has reached a state of debasement with the effacement of all kinds of freedom. Things such as that will keep me away forever from my own country because of that special ability to keep free thoughts and speech are no longer there. That's a shame, what else have we not destroyed in Lebanon? What have we got left as to make us unique and noble as a country? My heart is weeping in shame and pity for what we have become.

comment: The accusations against Marcel Khalife are an insult not only to the his great works of art but also to the freedoms of lebanon and all the lebanese. The freedom in Lebanon is something sacred and all the Lebanese need to guard this freedom with their blood because it is the air that we breathe the bread that we eat. We in lebanon are very proud of our freedoms and our liberties and we plan to protect them and to keep them for the future generations to come.

comment: As an American-Lebanese, who lives partially in both countries, one of the greatest reasons I spend time in Lebanon and cherish it so much is the intellectual and artistic freedom one finds their. If it weren't for these freedoms, the core of what is Lebanon would not exist; that is a sanctuary from persecution that has existed for centuries. Let's not destroy this great gift that has been given to us.

comment: What has happened to tolerance and diversity in the ummah? Let's go back in history. I quote Fatima Mernissi from the book 'Faith and Freedom'. "Unlike the Christian Church, medieval Islam as a state ideolohy did not require conformity of thought and was not threatened by scientific inquiry, because whereas the universe belonged to God, the Caliph's authority was not divine. A scientist like Averroes [who posited that no after life was possible (p.34)] could live and work in a Muslim state (although he did get into trouble and was harrassed for heresy at a certain point), was immediately perceived as a danger by the Christian Church..(p.37). The tables have turned.

comment: I cannot believe that in this day and age when we should be working together in developing our future as a nation and religions, we start digging for issues that may harm the work the many have performed to pave the way for our children. The Arab nation (regardless of religion) has been fighting for freedom for a number of years, be it freedom from an occupier or freedom of thought and speech. What we fight for cannot be pushed back by issues like the one at hand. We must value what we have. We must continue to fight for this freedom; when we get closer, we must value it. Marcel Khalifeh is perhaps one of the most liberated thinkers and advanced composers in the Arab nation. His idiols and thoughs are brought on by his music that has known no boundaries, religious or other. Let's keep it that way. Lebanon has always had a share of democracy not experienced in some countries. Please excersize this democracy and concentrate your efforts on more important things. We have a common enemy and that is NOT us!
