comment: I think the issue is over-exaggerated. Though no muslim cleric agrees on singing verses of Quran, this whole thing (supposing it is true) doesn't deserve prosecution.. Islam means submission (to God) and it is just a continuation of the 2 famous religions and the prophet Joseph (yusuf) belongs to all 3 religions.. I listened to the song..and only found 1 verse the last one (raa'tuhum li sajedeen) that is taken word by word from Quran..anyway marcel took it from Mr. Darwish .. There are positive output of singing Nabi Yusuf's story is that people understands its social meanings..
I wish Mr Kalifee to exit victorious from this court, but I greatly wish that after that the anger shouldn't be pointed at a specific religion in particular , taking in account that a handful of educated Muslim Ulamaa had spoken positively in Mr. Kalifee's matter..
Best wishes, May Allah help us (mankind) all to be more open minded and understanding

comment: While I am neither an Arab nor a Muslim, I have gained some sense of Marcel Khalife's importance in contemporary Arabic culture through speaking with a Palestinian Muslim fan of Khalife (the person who taught me a great deal about Arabic music in general). He told me the story of how, despite Israel's ban on playing Khalife's music in the occupied territory, his school one day played songs of resistance at top volume, and how good he felt about that. I also remember the warmth which the audience at one of the Maharhan al-Fan festivals in New York greeted this performer. That said, I have to admit that I find the very idea of blasphemy laws hard to imagine.

comment: What happened to freedom of speech and critical thinking? Instead of bringing charges against him, this could be used as an opportunity to unite the Arab world in supporting the Palestinians. At most, criticism against the song should be allowed, but an arrest? Come on....the Arab world is better than that, no?

comment: I unconditionally support Marcel Khalife in his struggle against the forces of darkness. The reactionary indictment of khalife is nothing short of reactionary, die-hard and not-so-bright thinking. Marcel's effort to raise the level of Arab music is laudable, praiseworthy--not condemnable, neither is it deserving of the futile hassle and 'buh buh' that the gatekeepers of obscurantism are making. Long live Khalife ..

comment: I am a Muslim Palestinian American and to accuse Marcel Khalife of blasphemy is to insult the intelligence of the Arab and Muslim and Christian communities worldwide. Don't you read the Koran? It clearly says that we cannot force Muslim laws on a country that is not fully governed by Muslims. So leave him alone. Let him express himself. He represents me as a Palestinian and as a woman. Let's not become an Afghanistans where no freedom is allowed and where people use religion as an excuse to persecute other people. Merci

A person like him does not deserve these charges and instead of encouraging him we trial him for representing us and putting our sorrow and dilemma in beautiful music to reach our hearts. I and so many arabs have always believed that Libanon was a democratic country and we should not always interpret things the way we want, we have suffered from this and I think this should come to an end.
